A one-time purchase pays for itself. Ten years of a Spotify individual plan (about $1,440) would buy roughly 1,440 songs at $1 each, or about 110 albums on CD. A 1,000-song collection breaks even after about seven years of streaming; 100 CDs after about nine. After that, owning is pure savings — the subscription keeps costing money every month, while the music you own costs nothing more, ever.
